Visit Le Clos des Sources

The Clos des Sources is a Dordogne garden on the edge of the village of Vitrac close to Sarlat. It is a very pretty garden and well worth a look if you are in the area.

The garden is a series of different gardens including a mediterranean garden and a grasses garden.

Explore the Clos des Sources

The Clos des Sources is in a lovely location in a valley surrounded by trees.

The garden is entered by a plant nursery where you can buy some plants if you have been inspired by your visit. There is also a seating area just outside the garden where you can sit and enjoy tea and cakes.

Entering the garden from here gives you a sweeping view over the garden as a whole as the entrance is up above the garden. This gives you a good chance to admire the different aspects that you will be able to explore up close.

The succession of gardens starts with a garden covering part of the hillside. Abundant planting including masses of both pink and white valerian, euphorbias, geraniums and roses keeps this area very colourful. As you advance into the garden you can see the lovely stone house of the owner set above this pretty area.

Further along and the presence of water plays an important role in the garden with a large pond surrounded by grasses and willows.  A stream and a cascade of water also add to the charm of the garden.

Winding back round to the garden beneath the hillside planting and there is a long border filled with many varieties of grasses, a real pleasure to see in the autumn when all the seed heads glow in the autumn light.

The autumn colours of the trees in the garden also add to the autumn interest. Indeed the garden has been carefully planned to have lots to see and admire throughout the year.
