Explore the Jardins des Renaudies
The Jardins des Renaudies is a park of 3.5 hectares and is home to more than 3000 varieties of plants, shrubs and trees. The garden is inspired by the 'English Garden' planting sytle and has a relaxed, generous planting designed by Jean Renault.
Opened in 1988 the gardens have a maturity and a richness of planting that will make your visit a pleasure.
Rhododendrons grow well in the north of France and the rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias put on a spectacular display in the garden in early spring. More than 250 rhododendrons and azaleas have been planted.
In the middle of the park a stream leads to a large pond and a woking water-wheel provides a focus to the natural planting surrounding the water. Irises, roses, primulas and alstromerias provide plentiful colour to the scene.
Hydrangeas are another delight in the gardens of northern France and grow with an incredible vigour. Here in the Jardins des Renaudies their summer-time display is fabulous.
If you are not sure which type to plant in your own garden you can see here a whole range to help you to make up your mind. There are Hydrangea macrophylla, paniculata, quercifolia, serrata, arborescens and petiolaris to admire.
There is also a very long herbaceous border packed with geraniums, astilbe, hemerocallis, phlox, crocosmia, lots of bulbs and lots more.
An old farm in the grounds has now been turned into an ecomuseum and houses ancient farming equipment as well as a room showing how the farmers would have lived in the early 1900s.
If you are visiting with children they will enjoy the corn labyrinth which is open from 27 July to 21 October. The labyrinth covers 1000m2 with 1.5km of paths within the corn.
When you have finished exploring the garden there is a lovely English tea shop with home made cakes and an opportunity for you to relax and soak up the atmosphere.
Various events take place throughout the year including an easter egg hunt, hydrangea-day and a pumpkin festival.
